Apple Pie

ingredients for the filling:

  • 4 apples

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar(or half brown half caster)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbs flour(can be corn starch)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • pinch of salt


ingredients for the crust :

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 tbs sugar

  • 1/4 cup cold water



cooking method:

peal the apples,cut them in 4 then slice them up thinly(not too thin),add the sugar,vanillia,cinnamon and the flour and mix well,let it sit while you make the crust.(the apple will release juice in time and the flour will keep it creamy)


For the crust:

Mix the flour with the butter,cut the butter into small pieces and crumble it with your hands with the flour,add the salt and then when the flour is crumbly with the butter add enough cold water to make a not too soft dough.

Cut the dough in half,roll one out into the size of your pie dish,transfer it into the dish,add the apple then roll the other half into the same size.You can add it just as it is,just cut a 2-3 cm cross in the middle for the steam to escape,or cut it up to strips to make a braided top.(lay the strips 1 cm apart horizontally then lift every second and place one across,put them down then lift every other second strip and repeat until the whole is covered)

Brush the top with milk(or just water)and sprinkle with sugar for decoration.

In a pre heated oven bake on 200C for 20 min,on 180C another 20 min(longer if your pie is bigger)until golden brown.

Serve with ice cream,whipped cream or eat it as you like.
